Hi Katherine, It's strange that you are talking about needing a new camera - I'm currently attending evening photography classes!
A piece of advice our lecturer gave was to avoid using flash at all - esp when photographing babies and children. Place them in natural daylight, or facing a window. Then you get a lovely, natural skin colour and rounded features! If you must use flash you can soften the effect by fixing a tissue over the flash or buying a little cover for it!
I have a piece written on photographing children on my Squidoo Lens, (www.squidoo.com/digital-photos/)
Also, I can recommend a couple of great books if you want! The difference it has made to my pictures is amazing - no more washed out babies and I'm even thinking about setting up my own studio in the future due to all the positive feedback I've had from family and friends based on photos I now have on display at home!
My name's Katharine and I am a 30 year old stay at home Mom. I'm desperate to make money from home so that I can raise my daughter myself. I'm married to an amazing man named Charlie and have a cheeky dog named Jersey.
